Beer Review - Founders Brewing Red Rye PA

Red Rye PA

Brewery: Founders Brewing
Location: Grand Rapids, MI
Beer Name: Red’s Rye PA
Style: Rye IPA
ABV: 6.6%
IBU: 70

The beer was poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass. Pours a deep crimson red with a thin tan head with patchy lacing. The aroma starts with grapefruit that moves into piney notes with a sweet malty background with a touch of dank rye. The flavor is hop forward. Lots of citrus notes with a pine resin quality that moves into a slightly sweet, caramel bready malt backbone, that ends with a subtle rye and hop bitterness. Finishes dry with a medium feel and well carbonated.

Overall a unique twist on an IPA. Keeping my theme alive of weird bearded guys on labels. A nice looking beer. Very nicely hopped, that balances well with the sweet malt base. The rye is an interesting component but I feel that it could use a bit more to make it more pronounced. Nonetheless an enjoyable quaffable brew.
