Beer Review - Samuel Adams Longshot A Dark Night in Munich

A Dark Night in Munich

Brewery: Samuel Adams Brewing
Location: Boston, MA
Beer Name: Longshot A Dark Night in Munich
Style: Munich Dunkel
ABV: 5.90%
IBU: NA

The beer was poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass. Pours mahogany with red hues around the edges. Decent off-white head with average retention and moderate lacing upon the glass. The aroma is very faint with notes of dough, caramel, chocolate and spice. The flavor is slightly deeper with rich malt, bread, sweet caramel, and a touch of earthiness. Finishes slightly dry and bitter with grassy notes. A nice medium body with a good bit of carbonation.

Overall it was a good beer. Being a homebrew guy it’s hard to root against a fellow brewer. I really wanted to like it more than i did. Nonetheless it was a good beer. The bottle label wasn’t anything special but it was nice to see the guy’s face that won. Normally I would have passed over a beer with a person picture on it but having known it was a homebrew competition my interest was peaked. The beer looked really nice and inviting, but the aroma seemed faint. The flavor wasn’t as complex as I thought it was going be. It was however, very smooth and easy to drink. In the end I was left searching for a bit more out of it. What an amazing experience and I have to commend Samuel Adams for putting it out there. I’ll have to submit a beer myself next year.
