Beer Review - Samuel Adams Longshot Five Crown Imperial Stout

Five Cown Imperial Stout

Brewery: Samuel Adams Brewing
Location: Boston, MA
Beer Name: Longshot Five Crown Imperial Stout
Style: Imperial Stout
ABV: 8.9%
IBU: NA

The beer was poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass. Pours deep black with a thick mocha head that has great retention and a fair amount of lacing. The aroma speaks of roasted grains with faint notes of expresso, vanilla, and dark chocolate. The flavor is a nice balance of roasted bitterness then malt sweetness with a bit of hop bitterness at the end. A creamy medium body a low carbonation

Overall an enjoyable Imperial Stout. Just an OK label. Not a huge fan of a person’s picture on the bottle, but being a homebrew competition winner I’m good with it. Good look to the beer, almost pitch black with a nice mocha head is inviting. Aroma was not as strong as I would have thought it to be. A very nice velvety body to the brew. Pleasant contrast between the dark roasted bitter taste and sweeter malts. Hints of dark fruit, vanilla, and coffee develop on the palate. The beer ends dry with just a touch of hop bitterness. The ABV was hidden well within the beer.
