Beer Review - Old Dominion Brewing Big Thaw Bock

Big Thaw Bock

Brewery: Old Dominion Brewing
Location: Dover, DE
Beer Name: Big Thaw Bock
Style: Maibock
ABV: 7.5%
IBU: NA

The beer was poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass. Pours a coppery orange with decent head retention and thin lacing. The aroma speaks of bock style beers, lots of bready caramel malts, a touch of orange peel, cloves, with a slightly floral boozy end. The taste starts a biscuity, sweet caramel with a slight tinge of quickly fading booze that moves into yeasty esters, spices, and a floral citrus. Nice medium body with good carbonation and a dry finish.

Overall a very nice Maibock. This beer is easy to drink. Good balanced malt characteristics. Slightly boozy but this aspect fades quickly and isn’t distracting. Seemed a little over hopped but does balance the sweetness of the malts.
