Beer Review - Leinenkugel Brewery Creamy Dark

Brewery: Leinenkugel Brewing
Location: Chippewa Falls, WI
Beer Name: Creamy Dark
Style: Dark American Lager
ABV: 4.90%
IBU: 19

The beer was poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass. Pours a deep mahogany with reddish edges when held up to the light. A thick off-white head develops initially but subsides quickly to a thin layer with light glass lacing. The aroma is very mild with hints of toasted caramel malt, dark chocolate, and an earthy roasted nut layer. The flavor starts with earthy, lightly smoked malts that gives way to much longer lasting sweeter caramel finish. A lighter medium body beer with a nice level of carbonation.

Overall I enjoyed this beer but was ultimately left searching for more out of it. The label is the typical Leinenkugel’s graphic with the colors changed so nothing special to note here. The aroma was fainter than I would have liked but not completely lacking. Color was really nice but not as dark as I anticipated due to the name. I really enjoyed the flavors and it was a very smooth, easy to drink brew. Not a lot of hop bitterness but the lightly bitter roasted malts accented the sweet malts. The sweet caramel finish complimented the creaminess body of the beer well and was the highlight for me. A good beer.
