Beer Review - Boulevard Brewery Dark Truth Stout

Brewery: Boulevard Brewing Co
Location: Kansas City, MO
Beer Name: Dark Truth Stout
Style: Imperial Stout
ABV: 9.7%
IBU: 60

The beer was poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass. Pours an opaque black with a very rich mocha colored head. The head retreats very slowly leaving crystalline lacing down the glass sides. The aroma smacks of sweet malts and dark roasted coffee with undertones of plums and grassy hops. This is a full body beer with a velvety texture and a good amount of carbonation. The flavor is complex with notes of dark stone fruits, burnt sugars, and a bitter dark roasted coffee taste. A lingering bitter roast taste permeates your senses afterward along with a gentle warmth from the 9.7%ABV.

Overall a very tasty stout beer. Dark and alluring. An insanely creamy pouring beer. Perhaps a bit too much carbonation. Lots of roasted malts carry this beer but it is well balanced with the addition of the earthy hops. The addition of the Belgium yeast was perfect and lends a very appealing fruity attribute, hinting of plums and figs, that melds with the bitter dark espresso taste. Considering the high ABV of the brew, it is very surprising how subdued and complimentary it rounds the beer out. A beer meant for sipping and enjoying the time tick away.
