Beer Review - Southern Tier IPA

Brewery: Southern Tier Brewing
Location: Lakewood, NY
Beer Name: IPA (India Pale Ale)
Style: India Pale Ale
ABV: 7.3%
IBU: NA

The beer was poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass. Pours a coppery orange with a good amount of head with moderate amounts of lacing. The aroma speaks of bits of citrus rind and biscuit with more prominent notes of pine resin and a delicate floral quality. The flavor begins with a touch of mild citrus with flecks of sweet toffee, which finishes with an earthy, leafy, slightly metallic bitterness. The body is on the low end of the medium scale with a light carbonation.

Overall I thought it was a well balanced take on an IPA. None of the components really over powered each other. The aroma wasn’t sharp and biting, but smooth. The sweet malts and bitter hops played well with each other. Wasn’t overly sweet or bitter. In general everything seemed to meld into an easy drinking beer. Could be a tad more carbonated to give it a more crisp edge. However, for all its balance nothing really spoke out to me that would separate it from any other IPA on the market.
